Anke Herbert Dressage Lessons
Anke Herbert - Dressage lessons in the bay area

Anke transformed my riding and my horse within weeks. She just expects that you can do it...so you try. That kind of encouragement and expectation raised my riding to a much higher level. And my thoroughbred transformed from taking tiny little steps to really swinging through his back and moving beautifully. I recommend Anke 100%!

Anke's Background

Anke rode in her first competition as a 4 year old and won her first jumping competition at 9 years of age. She then earned the title of Belgium Junior Dressage Champion as an 11 year old. Anke continued to compete annually in the Belgium Dressage Championship from age 13 to 17 and advanced to Fourth Level.

International Experience

With a broad expanse of horsemanship experience, Anke has trained hundreds of horses and riders throughout Holland, New Zealand, Italy, United States, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium.

Anke earned Pferdewirtschaftsmeister, highest certification attainable as a German equine professional for horse and rider training.

Additionally, she worked for, trained with and appretinced with several top international trainers including George,Inge Theoderescu, Maria Guenther, Rosemarie Springer, Sally Clark, Hans Staub, Lutz Merkel, Herbert Meyer and Herbert Rehbein.

Anke worked for Ilsebell Becher at her breeding stable for 9 years and was responsible for the training and showing of the young horses. For 13 years she was a self-employed horse trainer in Bremn where she also coached the Bremen Regional Juniors Dressage Team. Most recently, Anke spent 4 years in Switzerland as a trainer.

Anke was a member of the 2008 German Olympic Dressage team.

A Classical Instructor

Anke brings a rare combination of hard work and infectious enthusiasm to her teaching and students unanimously enjoy learning from her and improve quickly.

Years of classical training have developed Anke's guiding principle...to keep the tradition of classical riding. No shortcuts for Anke's student. While the process is gradual, it is the key to building a good foundation that carries both horse and rider through the levels.

What she loves about all of her students and their horses is that they really try and that they have fun on the job. "Sometimes the owners feel their horses might be goofing off," Anke says, "but I believe the horses are just trying to figure out what we are asking of them. They try so hard."

Fandango

Anke is currently developing her beautiful and talented 6 year old Bavarian Warmblood gelding Fandango. She is in training with Heidi Gaian of Villa Rosa and cliniced with Olympian Lisa Wilcox in the Fall of 2008.
